This is a 360 degree view of the kitchen/dining area at our resort at breakfast time. Thanks to Monica we get brekky each day included. The choice here is INCREDIBLE!! there are 2 wagons in the outside area one with soups, the other waffles and pancakes. Inside are fresh coffee machines, a hot selection with everything brekky related you can imagine and then a few other things. A fruit bar. A juice bar. A cereal bar. A bread and toast bar. And of course a bar with danishes and croissants..... I shall be very much fatter on my return!!!!! |
We decided to go for a walk, since it was raining this morning. And walk along the beach to the Kuta art market was the plan! Only about 2 Km round trip. We alternated between walking along the beach and along the road depending which one held the greatest number of people trying to sell us something!
Not far down the beach is one of many very run down looking sheds with 20 cent showers. |
Not too sure I'd want to shower in one of these. Each one has an attached person or several trying to sell shells or drinks. |
One of the many cool stone carvings guarding the entrance gates to various buildings. |
A very elaborate beach entrance to one on the resorts at Legian. Luke spotted a squirrel running across the courtyard here and got excited about it, I kept wandering along, not remembering, of course, he's never seen one before! I used to live in North America and had squirrels up to my ears! Pretty cool seeing something like that for the first time. |
An unfortunate, but funny, name for a shop that sells pastries.... |
The Kuta art markets, not many visitors due to the rain. Walking up and down the aisles of t shirts, paintings, watches, and other touristy stuff with each shop keeper telling you to come in. One older lady even said "I remember you, I have shirts your size now", interesting as I've never been here and she'd never been to Australia. |
We came upon some sort of ritual thing happening. This is where the "band" were playing the music the others performed to... see next... |
And these are the people performing various rituals which mostly meant throwing different objects and food stuffs on the beach and into the ocean.... interesting but messy. |
A cool octopus sculpture encapsulating this restaurant. |
Nachos for lunch! we went into this place for a snack.... lucky we didn't order mains! |
The corn chips were ENORMOUS!! |
Imagine the obesity of the average obese Ozzie if we had these at home!!!! |
The scooter population is incredible!! |
Legian beach..... Imagine this on a summer day during holiday season..... |
OK...... at least they're honest!! We came across quite a few of these shops. |
Just a sample to the traffic chaos. If you can, view the video below and note the van parked in the left lane causing havoc, and yet no one minded in the least... people here are so laid back..... |
And in the middle of the city...... cows...... |
It pays to keep an eye where you are walking as OHS does not exist here. Under most of the sidewalks are the sewers and drains and many places where building is going on the sidewalk just disappears. |
So we found the Kuta art markets, and then proceeded to get lost. Instead of a nice 2 Km up one street down the next walk, we walked nearly 7Km and ended up half way into Denpasar, which was actually an L shaped walk. Once we decided we were hopelessly lost we hailed a taxi and had a pleasant drive back to out resort. A taxi ride of that duration in Oz would be around $40, Here $4.20. Talking to the taxi driver I found out petrol here cost between 65-90 C/lt.... I remember those days at home!!!!
My purchase for the day! Spike Jr, you lift his bum up and place a small candle inside.... |
Back at our resort we finally made contact with Jacob and Hope and discovered they are staying at a resort about 250M from us, they dropped over and it was wonderful to catch up with them. They explained how they had to visit the Oz consulate today for the marriage paperwork and that it took longer with more checks and balances and heavy doors to go through than it did to get into Indonesia!!
Tomorrow is another day........................Good night from Bali..
