Once again the breakfast buffet.............

Today we decided to walk up the street and find Luke a hat and then catch a taxi to the Bali zoo. So we came across a chap washing his car on a very busy street, just another sidewalk obstacle common everywhere in the city... I should have waited for passing cars to take the picture, he was nearly loosing his bum to vehicle mirrors as they past!!

An example of the sidewalk being used by scooters when the traffic is too slow!!

This is the toll booth on the new expressway out in the bay to get you from Denpasar city to the airport quickly, the toll is $1. It was opened last October and the taxi driver spoke very proudly about it. This is the road we flew past on approach to the airport....

View of the road....

And here is an airplane on short final.....

The approach path is parallel to the road and the jettty in the shot above and below is the HIAL (high intensity approach lighting) markers for the runway centre line, as you can see quite close to the road...

This sign amused me "Bali starts here" it announces.... + or - 1 Km...not sure how far!!!

We came upon a street vendor setting up this stall in the middle of the sidewalk and pondered the possibilities..... (No I DID NOT complete any business transactions with him!!)

Near the beach these men were decorating bamboo poles to be used in a ceremony of some kind.

The power poles aren't close enough together to support all the cables, so they hang them across street and business signs.....

We arrived at Bali Zoo and the first animals on display...... salt water crocodiles, not native to Bali. This one was HUGE, my arm doesn't do a good job of perspective because the viewing point was a long way above, and I wasn't climbing in for the shot. But this chap would be about 4-5 M long...

These are native alligators....pointy teeth!

Otters

Balinese land tortoise

Sunda slow Loris.... they weren't moving, very slow...

Siamang monkey, loudest of all monkeys as it inflates a pouch under it's chin to the size of its head and then whoops... you can see the pouch here and hear it in the video....

Everywhere you travel here there are penis statues, carvings, bottle openers, key rings etc.... and here, at Bali zoo surrounding an animal enclosure are peeing statues holding happily, of course, their penis

A Bali Mynah bird

Bengal tigers.....awesome!

A horn bill

Sunbear, not very big but look at those claws!!

In the bird aviary, a flying fox or several....

Victoria crowned pigeons

some silvery Gibbons

Nap time.....

What kind of snake???????

Orangutan..... not interested today.

Elephants

Asean bear cats... (spelling again!)

Then we had lunch with Lions... well it would have been if not for the very heavy plate glass. There were stickers all over the glass stating " please move slowly"... not wanting to startle the lions I guess.

The food here was also incredible. 2 main dishes and fresh fruit smoothies $17.80
We have not yet had a poor quality or poorly presented meal. There are Mcdonalds, KFC and Pizza huts about but not very many.
